Cultural Diplomacy in Africa - A Forum for Young Leaders:
“A Unified Africa: The Challenges and Opportunities of National and Regional Collaboration”
(Berlin, 05th – 11th December 2010)

As the unipolar world of the 1990s is replaced by international multipolarity, the topic of regionalism has never been more pertinent. From the European Union to the Association of South East Asian Nations, countries are opting to unite with their neighbors in order to promote peace, a prominent position on the international stage, and economic prosperity. In Africa there has been a considerable increase in regional cooperation, both political and economic, which is serving to improve the situation in and international position of the continent. In honor of this, the ICD is pleased to announce its forthcoming week-long Seminar for "Cultural Diplomacy in Africa: A Forum for Young Leaders", which will take place in Berlin from the 5th-11th December 2010.

On this occasion the program will focus on the following subject:
"A Unified Africa: the Challenges and Opportunities of National and Regional Collaboration"
In addition to looking in greater detail at the history and development of cultural diplomacy, the next CDA week-long Seminar will focus on current and future issues facing Africa and how these will affect its future development.

In particular, the next CDA Week-long Seminar will focus on the following areas:
• The growing power of the African Union and its successes in promoting peace, stability and cooperation
• The theory and potential of regional integration
• The history of African cooperation, from the Organization of African Unity to the present, celebrating nearly 50 years of regional collaboration
• Supranational African organizations: African solutions for African problems
• North African integration with Europe, the Arab World and Sub-Saharan Africa
• A Unified Africa: the role of Cultural Diplomacy
• African cooperation as a solution to conflict and humanitarian crisis on the continent
• Regional cooperation as a response to international dilemmas, focusing on the issue of climate change
• The issue of race: breaking the barriers both nationally and internationally between white and black
• Uniting and mobilizing the African Diaspora to aid in solving African problems
