UCG UniCredit: Beatriz Lara Bartolomé and Diego De Giorgi co-opted to the board of directors

UniCredit today announces that on 5 February 2020 the board of directors - upon the proposal from the Corporate Governance, Nomination and Sustainability Committee - co-opted Beatriz Lara Bartolomé and Diego De Giorgi as independent non-executive directors in place of Fabrizio Saccomanni and Martha Boeckenfeld. Taking into account the article 2386 of the Italian Civil Code, their appointment will be submitted for approval to the shareholders’ meeting in order to integrate the Board, whose mandate will expire in April 2021.
Beatriz Lara Bartolomé and Diego De Giorgi were selected by the board of directors in accordance with the "Process for selecting candidates for the posts of Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and board member" approved by the board on 6 July 2017 and available on the Company's website (https://www.unicreditgroup.eu/en/governance/board-of-directors/process-for-selecting-candidates.html). The board of directors concluded that Beatriz Lara Bartolomé and Diego De Giorgi - given their professional experience - are suitable candidates to hold the position as director of UniCredit. The board will benefit from a set of skills in the digital/technology sector, with a specific application to banking, that the board feels crucial for the implementation of the multi-year plan; the competencies of the board in banking business (with particular focus on retail commercial banking), strategic planning and international experience will be reinforced. Beatriz Lara Bartolomé is considered a pioneer of innovation and digital transformation, with 16 years of experience in telecommunications sector and 9 years in banking; she participated in the evolution of significant transformational projects of international banking groups and multinationals, in particular she designed and implemented the innovation centre in BBVA. She has a master’s degree in Physical Sciences from the Madrid’s Complutense University, and has complemented her studies in Management and Leadership with specific programs at the MIT Sloan School of Management and the IESE Business School. Diego De Giorgi is a senior corporate and investment banker, having built his career internationally. In the last 4 years he was the Head of Global Investment Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, having been previously responsible for all Corporate and Investment banking activities for the EMEA region (“Europe, Middle East and Africa”). Prior to this, he was the Chief Operating Officer, Global Investment Banking, at Goldman Sachs in NY and before that responsible for all relationships with EMEA Banks, Insurers and Asset Managers. After his graduation in Economics and Business Administration at Bocconi University, he gained a CEMS master’s degree in International Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
